Although this book wasn't entirely my favorite type of story - somehow both Stuart and Emma had pasts that were a bit dark and of course they were the result of their respective pasts and how they had responded to what life had dealt. In fact, they were survivors and yet, somehow the reading of this book left my soul a little troubled. Still, the story was intriguing, the con game they set up was very interesting. Last, they were definitely not your run of the mill Main Guy and Main Gal that typically make up the books I purchase and read in this genre.

At the end of the day, it was about what Stuart and Emma wanted - not about what Society thought. I get so weary with 98% of the H/h in these books having to bend their wills to what Society thinks lest they spend their lives in isolation. I suppose the social mores of those days were to be greatly considered due to the emphasis on the class system, but once in awhile, it's nice to read a book where nobody seems to give a hey about what others think. Stuart certainly didn't.

I loved Emma's feistiness, especially when she refused to let the issue about her lamb go. I loved Stuart's reply which of course basically said - "Bring it on" to the wrong lady. Who would ever have thought Emma would take it to the level she did to have her "get back." I was absolutely dialed in to the story 100% so that must say something about whether or not the storyline was interesting.

Someone mentioned "50 Shades of Gray" type of story. Not really - I didn't read 50 Shades, but I can say this book didn't contain any spankings or whippings for what it's worth.

Untie My Heart Judith Ivory 9780380812974 Books Reviews

Book started out good, I was initially impressed with the sheep ordeal; but then it got boring. The book perked up again for a short time then ended in such a hurry I got whiplash.
I have all of Judith Ivory's romance novels. I ordered the books, all at once, from an online used bookseller, after picking up Untie My Heart from the $1.00 charity table at my grocery store. I always read them again a couple of times a year. How I wish Ms. Ivory was able to continue her writing. It is perfect. Intelligent, fun, clever, the romance is always interesting & spicy. Her "voice" is unique.
Love this story. although I didn't like the history but then I can't do anything about it. That's just life. I loved the hero he was so brilliant and intelligent. I love the heroin she did not let her poverty diminish her essence. She gives the reader courage if you were born in poverty to stand up for yourself against those who would make you feel inferior.
Untie My Heart was one of the worst book that I’ve read in a while. I didn’t like the author's writing style. However, not the best story plot and moved at a slow rate that it just dragged on. Several sex scenes didn't bother me. This is the first book that I’ve read by Judith Ivory.
This is a great story- a wonderful romance, interspersed with some smokin' hot sex, and filled with some of the wittiest writing ever - I was laughing so hard I was crying. Really. The dialogue, Emma's thoughts, narrative comments - the book was worth the read for the laughter alone. The rest was an added perk.

Ivory's style is like a cross between Marsha Canham with her steamy sex scenes and witty repartee, and Laura Kinsale's rich and descriptive prose. If you like either author, you will like this book. Ivory's characters were so unique - a "retired" con artist, now a 30-ish, widowed sheep farmer, content with her existence but burdened by her previous dysfunctional marriage, and an arrogant, rich viscount, bilked by his relatives, both financially and emotionally. He is handsome, she is short and "round." It was refreshing to have a heroine was not tall, lithe, virginal and sexually naive. I was fine with the hero being handsome........

Their attraction for each other is undoubtedly born from pure lust, but their relationship develops very sweetly as they learn to share with other what makes them tick. I loved those scenes - it was a lot of dialogue, which slows the progression of the book, but it made the evolution of their love that much more believable.

Some of the scenes did seem a little preposterous at times, but if you can get around that and go with the story - it seemed necessary for the story to go a little crazy now and then, and I didn't think it distracted from the plot. On the contrary- it only added to the humor.

The only reason I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5 - occasionally I was confused by where the characters were physically placed- for example, someone was lying on a bed, and the next minute, the same person was crawling onto the bed. I'd go back and re-read - no, I wasn't wrong, he just seemed to teleport to different positions that didn't make sense. A minor detail, and occasionally I found it a bit distracting, but not so much that I couldn't get the gist of what was happening.

All in all, a truly delightful book that I continued to daydream about long after it ended. And I am still chuckling.......
****HOT-HOT-HOT****

Not only that- BUT- this hits on all cylinders!!!

Judith Ivory is an actual STORY TELLER!!!

I cannot express how shocked and thrilled I was, stumbling over this.

She is amazingly fluent and lush with words, phrasing and emotions.
Confidant. Daring. Rash.

Using improbable combinations of descriptive language
for known human emotions, hopes, dreams and failings...

She throws things together in much the same way as an adventurous Iron Chef might...
in the oddest combinations- and yet
brilliantly done!

I went back and read, and re-read entire portions of this book,
just so I could savor again.

I wanted seconds! And thirds!
And started consuming anything else she has written.

Over joyed with a rush of elation.

It has been a very long time since I found an author of this caliber.
Yes, there are others.
But they are far and few in between.

A definite keeper!
