One word. Awesome!Platform 21 is one of those books that grabs a hold of you and intrigues you right from the start. Even from the beginning of the book, before things really get going, I had this impending sense of doom. The writing was great, the characters better, and the plot a maze of twists and turns with A LOT going on. With elements of conspiracy, terrorism, politics, along with the dystopian genre, with a bit of sci-fi, this speculative fiction novel has a little bit of something for everyone. The most current comparison I have to Platform 21 is the Hunger Games, so if you enjoyed that series, give this one a shot. Hopefully you will find it as engrossing as I did.

Platform 21 Beyond the Veil Volume 1 T R Patrick Victoria Schmitz 9781492970828 Books Reviews
It was a slow and boring read. As someone who likes this type of books I was surprised at my own pace of reading the book. It felt unnecessarily stretched around a very simple plot. My recommendation is to skip it.
Amazing book is all I can say! Once I started reading I couldn't stop. The only problem now will be waiting for the next? Please tell me there's a next!
I like to read. I like to read teen fiction; I think that it has something to do with my attention span. With that being said, I had trouble reading this book. While the premise was original, and immediately caught my attention, I think that there was just too much trying to be covered. Earthquakes, deaths, mysteries, being hunted down by the enemy - zombie or human- all interesting topics, but not when it's put together like this.
I started out very intriguing and I was sucked in immediately. You will not figure out what is going on and I can guarantee that. The characters are very likeable and the story is very complicated and has lots of mystery. Its ok for YA without tons of swearing and violence, it seemed at first to be dealing with politics, then religion, then I just didn't know what. I did stay up past 2 am trying to get to the ending and it just gets deeper and deeper. I would give it more stars but I got a little confused with the changing of 1st person to 3rd person and such toward the end.
Why not add a rapidly spreading virus, attacks from a Romulan ship, outlaws on horseback and a tap dancing Shirley Temple while you're at it? Wow, this book could not have had more stuff crammed into it if it were my great grandmother's hope chest. After about the 6th chapter, I kept thinking it had to get better from a plot standpoint. Nope. Let's just add more characters, more stuff (zombies, magical dreams, sacred daggers, etc etc etc). I kept hoping for a big reveal. Also nope. I got to the end and was so confused. My final thought after reading was "Wait, what happened about (fill in several blanks here)?" The shame here is that the writing style was actually engaging. Too bad the plot was such a mess.
I don't normally read young adult fiction, but a friend of mine recommended this book. Since I am always looking for something different and original, I decided to give this one a read. It is fantastic! It is not your typical young adult story; and if you found the popular vampire crap (read Twilight) to be cheesy and horrible, this will be refreshing and redeeming.
I won't provide any spoilers in this review, but the plot is suspenseful and intricate, with a lot of twists and turns that you won't see coming. It's a page-turner for real, and this comes from someone who thinks that Dan Brown books are rather predictable. The characters are quite human and I'm sure that teens will be able to relate to them and feel like they know them.
When you finally reach the end (and you'll get there quickly, because this book is a real page-turner), you will realize that this is just the beginning of a story that must be mammoth in scope. I am looking forward to more!
I've read my fair share of sci-fi/techno-thrillers/suspense novels and in some aspect they become formulaic after a while.
Patrick's engaging plot within a plot within a twisted subplot is gripping and engaging, and you find yourself driven to keep reading to find out what happens next. Cliche, I know, but I literally could not disengage from this book until I finished it.
My applause and kudos to the author for weaving such an engaging story without sinking to the industry norms of scattering profanity and sexuality throughout the book. This was a riveting story and simply didn't need those elements.
