Molly Appleby is a young writer for Collector's Weekly, and when the attractive reporter isn't covering auctions and antique shows all over the South, she's trying to get her new relationship with a coworker off the ground. When her latest assignment takes her to North Carolina pottery country to cover an exclusive kiln opening, she's certain that the show promises surprising offerings and rare finds. What she doesn't expect to find is a dead body.

George-Bradley Staunton is known throughout the antiques world as a very wealthy and very ruthless collector, and when he drops dead just after the opening, there are all too few mourners and a seemingly endless list of suspects. When the local police are stumped, Molly steps in to put her journalist's nose to work sniffing out the culprit. But no sooner does she start collecting clues than another dead body falls into her lap. As Molly digs beneath the genteel surface of antiques and collectibles, she finds a world filled with backstabbing and competition, and what started as a story about rare collections might leave Molly with nothing more than a collection of corpses.

A Killer Collection Antiques Collectibles Mysteries Series #1 (Audible Audio Edition) Ellery Adams Andi Arndt Tantor Audio Books

This would normally get four stars from me; it's got a lively cast of characters, it's tautly paced and well-plotted, and the depiction of the world of pottery-makers and collectors is vivid and engaging. The heroine is smart and likable. There's much to recommend about this book!

But I had to take a star off, because the copy-editing of the kindle version is simply egregious. As best I can guess, there WAS NO copy-editing, at all! It's as bad as I've encountered in ANY kindle book ... wrong words, partial sentences, duplicated phrases ... you name the error, and it's in there. Often. Every few pages. I just started reading the second book in the series (I'm on the third page) and I've already encountered an error in this one, so I fear that the kindle versions of this whole series are likely plagued with these mistakes.

A Killer Collection Antiques Collectibles Mysteries Series #1 (Audible Audio Edition) Ellery Adams Andi Arndt Tantor Audio Books Reviews

Ellery Adams is one of my all time favorite authors. I can't believe I hadn't read this early work. Enjoyed it because collecting is my passion and this book speaks to me.
Love every single one of Ellery's books! I will read everything she writes! This Antiques & Collectibles Series is wonderful! Love ALL of the characters and their very human qualities! Love all of the research she puts into her books as well! Love learning these gems about other areas and culture! Ellery is a fabulous writer and I just can't get enough!! Give me a cup of tea, an Ellery Adams book and a comfy place to sit, and I could stay all day!
The murder cozy has taken an interesting turn with its setting firmly placed in the potters world of South Carolina. Writer and reporter Molly and her mother, Clara, attend a kiln showing of a well known potter. After the mad rush and mayhem of the selection process - reminiscent of a Black Friday sale - one of the collectors collapses and dies. An assignment allows Molly to question the attendees. Along with the details revealed with Molly's search, the details and skills and love for the clay evidenced by the potters reveal themselves. Like the beautiful depth and patterns in the pottery glazes, this cozy reveals the depth of human pain and the damage that can be caused by burying the things that will only heal in the light of day. Let the pottery speak to you. Enjoy.
This book was interesting with great characters. It seems like a good first book. I will read a couple more to see how characters are developed and if the plots and mysteries are engaging. While I enjoyed the book, it is not one that you can't put down, and I didn't feel the need to get the next book in the series in any hurry. But, I did learn a lot about pottery and did get the urge to sign up for that pottery class being offered at the community center)
Written by one of my favorite cozy mystery writer this first book in the Antiques and Collectibles series is a great read.
Set in North Carolina. The heroine is a newspaper writer, who writes articles on collectibles,Molly.
In this opening book of the series, she's doing an article on pottery and ends up unraveling two deaths.
The reader never tumbles onto the second death until about halfway through but it's finding sets up the why's and how of the other murder.
I highly recommend this book.
I hope book two is just as good.
"A Killer Collection" is the debut book in a mystery series by Ellery Adams about antiques and collectibles. I have read another series by Ms. Adams (The Hope Street Church Mysteries) and enjoyed all of them. I really enjoyed this new book and found it quite different from the previous books I have read by this author.

In "A Killer Collection" we are introduced to Molly, who is a writer for Collector's Weekly. She has become heavily involved in the collector scene in her area of North Carolina. In this book, we are treated to a bit of a lesson about pottery making as well as a different kind of whodunnit. I must admit that I had not figured out the ending and it came as a surprise to me. I also enjoyed the twist that the author gave us on that ending.

The description of pottery making had me wanting to try my hand at it - it was very descriptive and appealing. For a book about collecting, one might think you would want to go buy a clay pot or two but for me, it was that I wanted to learn how to make them.

I am looking forward to reading more in this series and recommend to those who like a good cozy mystery.

I received a digital advance reader copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.
When Molly Appleby attends a kiln opening with her mother she finds plenty of information to write for Collector’s Weekly where she works. She also meets plenty of colorful characters including George-Bradley Staunton. She gets more excitement than she bargained for when Staunton dies at the event and his death may be murder. There are plenty of people that hated Staunton but who would hate him enough to kill him?

Originally published under the name J. B . Stanley and fully revised for republication, “A Killer Collection” is the nicely done first book in Ellery Adams’ Antiques and Collectibles cozy mystery series. Molly is a nice heroine - good at her job but insecure about her weight and wanting a relationship with marketing director Matt Harrison but not sure if he feels the same way. Her relationship with her mother Clara is well done and adds much to the book. What really makes this book so interesting, however, is the world of pottery. I don't know much about pottery and learned a lot while reading this book - to the point where I felt like I was right there alongside the characters as they attended and worked at an auction. As for the mystery itself - it is well plotted with plenty of twists and turns including a doozy of a twist at the end (I don't want to spoil this twist but I do want to say that I really like the way Adams’ treated what happened to the killer).

“A Killer Collection” is an early but delightful cozy mystery by the always enjoyable Ellery Adams.
