I love regency romances! This is my first book by this author, and I liked it. The heroine was very compelling - pretty and smart and ultimately mature. The hero was also appealing - handsome and sweet, despite his initial immaturity. They had good chemistry initially but then it seemed to fade as the story went on. Very good storyline, good writing style. I liked it, and I'm looking forward to reading another!Tags : Six Degrees of Scandal [Caroline Linden] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Six Degrees of Scandal Caroline Linden 0000062389785 Books Reviews
A second-chance romance, a villain, a mystery to be solved and plot twists—all this in one book! Caroline Linden does not disappoint with this next release in the Scandalous series.
I liked Olivia, the heroine. She's independent and willing to face danger. She's also willing to accept help. James, the hero, is very likable. He goes out of his way to come to Olivia's aid and as much as he wants to step in at all times to help her, he also recognizes that she is capable of doing things on her own. I loved how Caroline showed James's character growth from an arrogant youth.
Caroline Linden does a lovely job in showing the characters falling in love.
There were some unexpected twists in this story.
I received an ARC from Avon and Edelweiss to review this book but I purchased the paperback.
I'm not going to recap the book, as plenty of others have and there's literally a recap on the product page )
Basically it was ok. I was enthralled at some times and then bored at others. I thought it interesting, but then sometimes I thought "it's going to take forever for her to write this out." Which it didn't, because she kind of sped up some plots. I also got confused a lot. I hadn't read any of the "Scandal" books (I may now, not sure), and the characters were mentioned as if the reader already knew who they were (and I didn't). I bought the book based on the summary, and if you want to intertwine previous characters that's fine, just make sure they aren't completely confusing a potential new reader. And when she did choose to explain who knows who and how, the recap was too long and mostly just confused me. It seemed like extraneous information. Plus now I don't really need to even read the other books, since I know how they turn out. Honestly I think the story would have done just fine (maybe even better!) without the explanatory information.
I guess it kind of ebbed and flowed. Took me a while to read it. I didn't always pick it back up immediately (because I was kinda "meh" over it), but I did want to finish it because I wanted to know what how it would end. So yeah, kind of left me "meh." I liked how they caught Clary, and that everyone lived HEA, I just didn't always enjoy getting there.
As the ending of this series, this was a very satisfying tying-up of loose ends. I had been anxiously awaiting the story of Olivia and Jamie, and Ms. Linden did not disappoint! Some of my all-time personal favorite books involve stories of second-chances at love. And as this one begins with the childhood meeting of the hero and heroine, we are allowed a special glimpse into how these two grew, both personally and in their relationship with each other. I always feel more connected to characters/stories portraying a time-span of growth and development. I loved the humor as I do with all of Ms. Linden's novels. But most importantly, I enjoyed the fact that these two do not profess to be "perfect" and both make mistakes along the way to their happily ever after....which makes that HEA especially poignant and well-deserved. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Though this book started out well, even in the "good" beginning there wasn't any chemistry between H/h. Very quickly, the whole thing became an interminable bore as the mystery part became dumber and dumber and there was constant recapping of previous books in the series, and nothing happened emotionally and the relationship didn't develop. Oy, it was hard to get through this one -- so unlike Ms. Linden's other books. I will continue to read this author's work, but I cannot recommend this one. In fact, if it's your first Linden book, read almost anyone of her earlier books; this one will turn you off of one of the few remaining decent HR authors.
I really enjoyed this book and I am sad to see the series end (or has it?)
This book was a second chance at love story and it was really well done. I liked both Olivia and James - they both admit that they made mistakes in the past - but they never stopped loving each other - even when it seemed they would never be together.
Olivia is in trouble and she turns to James to help her. Her husband has been dead for two years and one of his old friends is harassing her - she is at her wits end and can see no way out of the nightmare her life has become. Enter James - after years of avoiding Olivia, he drops everything to come to her aid.
Working together they figure out what her late husband had been doing and find way to stop the villain. They also rekindle their love for each other.
This book is well written and moves at a fast pace, all the lingering questions from the previous books are answered - including Lady Constance's identity. My only complaint is - if these two loved each other so desperately - why didn't they reconnect when her husband died? He has been gone for two years and still they avoided each other - I totally understood that they would do that when Olivia was still married - but why wait so long after? I didn't feel like I was given a reasonable explanation for that and that is why I knocked off 1/2 a star.
I really hope the epilogue is a set up for a spin off series and I know who I want to see as the hero! I would also love to see Daniel find love. I would definitely recommend this book - but I would strongly suggest reading the previous books and not starting with this one.
